Shadbala is the Vedic system that measures how strong each planet truly is, using six different sources of strength. Enter your birth details and this calculator works through the components for every planet, adds them up, and shows which planets are strong enough to deliver their promise and which are too weak to act on it fully.

What Shadbala Means

Shad means six and bala means strength. Rather than judging a planet by sign alone, Shadbala scores it across six categories and totals the result. A planet may sit in a fine sign yet score low overall, or sit modestly yet test strong. This is why classical astrology measures strength before trusting a placement to deliver.

The Six Strengths

The six are positional strength from sign and division, directional strength from the planet's place in the sky, temporal strength from the time of birth, motional strength from speed, aspectual strength from other planets, and natural strength fixed for each planet. Each is calculated in a unit called rupa, and the totals are compared against the strength a planet needs to be considered capable.

How It Is Read

A planet that meets or beats its required strength is read as able to give its results clearly, while one that falls short may struggle to express its significations. The strongest planet in the chart often colours the personality and the easiest areas of life, while the weakest can mark where extra effort is needed.

Why Strength Matters

Two charts can share the same yoga or placement yet differ greatly because one planet is strong and the other weak. Shadbala turns that intuition into numbers, so you can see which promises in the chart are well supported and which are fragile. It is one of the more technical but most useful tools in Vedic reading.

How to Use the Result

Use the Shadbala scores to weigh the rest of the chart, giving more trust to placements held by strong planets. Because several of the six strengths depend on exact time and position, an accurate birth time and place give the most dependable totals.

Shadbala Questions Answered

What is Shadbala?

Shadbala is a Vedic method that measures the sixfold strength of each planet, combining positional, directional, temporal, motional, aspectual and natural strength into a single score.

Why measure planetary strength?

Because a planet in a good sign can still be weak overall. Shadbala shows which planets are strong enough to deliver their results and which may struggle, so the chart is read more accurately.

What is a rupa?

A rupa is the unit used to measure each strength in Shadbala. The six strengths are scored in rupas and totalled, then compared with the strength a planet needs to be considered capable.

Strengths are computed with the Swiss Ephemeris. Shadbala follows classical Vedic formulas and is offered for study and reflection, not as a fixed prediction.
