Rate Limits & Usage

Each plan has two limits: a monthly calculation allowance and a per-minute rate limit. Together they keep the service fast and fair for everyone, and they make your costs predictable.

The two limits

  • Monthly allowance. The number of calculations included in your plan each billing period. It resets at the start of each period.
  • Per-minute rate. How many calls you can make in a short burst. Higher plans allow higher bursts.

What happens at the limit

If you exceed the per-minute rate, you get a temporary limit response; wait a moment and retry, ideally with a short backoff. If you exhaust your monthly allowance, you can either buy an extra-call pack as a one-off top-up or upgrade to a higher plan. See Extra calls and upgrades.

Keeping usage low

A result for a given name or birth date never changes, so cache responses on your side. Caching is the single most effective way to reduce your monthly call count while keeping pages fast. You can watch your live usage and your next billing date in the developer portal dashboard.

Do unused calls roll over?

Monthly plan allowances reset each period. Separately purchased extra-call packs are tracked by their own expiry, not the monthly reset.
