Kundli Matching, or Guna Milan, is the Vedic method for checking marriage compatibility between two people. Enter both birth details and this calculator scores the match out of thirty-six points across all eight kootas, and flags the important Nadi and Bhakoot doshas. A score of eighteen or more is traditionally considered acceptable for marriage.

The Eight Kootas

The Ashtakoot system compares the Moon's nakshatra and rashi of both partners across eight factors, each worth a set number of points. Varna and Vashya weigh temperament and attraction, Tara health and destiny, Yoni physical compatibility, Graha Maitri the mental bond, Gana nature, Bhakoot family and finances, and Nadi health and progeny. Their points add up to the total out of thirty-six.

Nadi and Bhakoot Doshas

Two factors carry special weight. Nadi, worth eight points, is read as the most important for health and children, and a Nadi dosha occurs when both partners share the same Nadi. Bhakoot, worth seven, governs emotional and financial harmony, and certain Moon-sign distances create a Bhakoot dosha. The calculator highlights both so they can be weighed carefully rather than lost in the total.

Reading the Result

A total below eighteen is traditionally seen as a weak match, eighteen to twenty-four as acceptable, and above that as good to excellent. Still, Guna Milan is one part of compatibility, not the whole of it, and many astrologers also look at the full charts. For the most accurate result, enter each person's birth time and timezone so the Moon positions are precise.

Matching Two Charts

Enter both birth dates, and for the sharpest score add each person's birth time and timezone. Press Calculate and the tool runs the Vedic 36-point Ashtakoot system across all eight kootas, then reports the total Guna Milan score with a breakdown. Any Nadi or Bhakoot concern is flagged too, so the result reads as more than a single figure.

What the 36 Points Mean

The eight kootas each carry a maximum value, and together they add up to thirty-six. A higher total is read as more natural harmony, and tradition generally treats a score from around eighteen upward as workable, with the middle and upper ranges considered good. The calculator shows the points each koota earns as well as the sum, so you can see where a match is strong and where it leans on goodwill.

Why the Doshas Carry Extra Weight

A strong number isn't the whole story. The Nadi and Bhakoot doshas can pull a high score down, since tradition links them to concerns about health and harmony in the home, and many readings weigh them heavily regardless of the total. The tool flags these separately so a couple isn't reassured by a big number alone, in keeping with how the system has always been read.

Kundli Matching Questions

What is a good Guna Milan score?

A score of eighteen or more out of thirty-six is traditionally considered acceptable for marriage, twenty-four and above is good, and thirty-two and above is excellent. Below eighteen is read as a weak match.

What are Nadi and Bhakoot doshas?

A Nadi dosha occurs when both partners share the same Nadi, affecting health and progeny, and a Bhakoot dosha arises from certain Moon-sign distances, affecting emotional and financial harmony. Both are weighed separately from the total.

What do I need to enter?

You need both partners' birth dates, and ideally their birth times and timezones, so the Moon's nakshatra and rashi can be found precisely. The match is based on those Moon positions.
