KP astrology, or Krishnamurti Paddhati, is a modern Vedic system prized for its precision. Enter your birth details and this calculator gives the three KP lords, the Sign lord, Star lord and Sub lord, for your Ascendant and every planet. The Sub lord is the decisive factor in KP, which is why the system is known for clear, specific readings.
The Three Lords
In KP every point in a chart is described by three layers. The Sign lord is the planet ruling the zodiac sign it falls in. The Star lord is the planet ruling the nakshatra it occupies. The Sub lord is found by dividing the nakshatra further using the Vimshottari proportions. Reading the three together pinpoints a placement far more finely than the sign alone.
Why the Sub-Lord Matters
Krishnamurti taught that the Sub lord is the deciding significator: it shows whether a placement will deliver the matters it touches. Because the sub-divisions are narrow, two people born minutes apart can have different Sub lords, which is how KP aims for sharper, more event-focused predictions than broader methods. The calculator computes the Sub lord precisely for each point.
Using the Result
The table of Sign, Star and Sub lords for your Ascendant and planets is the starting grid for KP analysis, used in timing and horary work. Read it as the framework a KP astrologer builds on rather than a finished interpretation. Because the Sub lords are so time-sensitive, an exact birth time and place are essential.
Where KP Comes From
Krishnamurti Paddhati is a twentieth-century refinement of Vedic astrology developed by K.S. Krishnamurti in India. Its big idea is to slice the zodiac more finely than sign and star alone, adding a sub-lord layer so a single degree gives a sharper answer. KP keeps the sidereal zodiac of traditional Jyotish but reads it through this extra division, which is why its results can differ from a standard chart.
The Sub Within the Star
Every sign is ruled by a sign lord, every nakshatra within it by a star lord, and each nakshatra is then split by the Vimshottari proportions into subs, each with its own sub-lord. That sub-lord is the deciding voice in KP. The calculator returns all three lords for the Ascendant and for every planet, so you can read the layered ownership of each point at a glance.
Why Time and Place Are Essential
KP is famously sensitive to birth time, because the Ascendant and the house cusps shift quickly and the sub-lord can change within a couple of minutes. An exact time and an accurate birthplace are what make the cuspal sub-lords reliable, so it's worth getting them as precise as you can before reading the result.
Common KP Astrology Questions
What is KP astrology?
KP, or Krishnamurti Paddhati, is a modern Vedic system that describes every point by its Sign lord, Star lord and Sub lord, and treats the Sub lord as the decisive factor. It is known for precise, event-focused readings.
What is a Sub lord?
The Sub lord is found by dividing a nakshatra using the Vimshottari proportions. It is the finest of the three KP layers and is read as the deciding significator for whether a placement delivers its results.
Why does KP need an exact birth time?
Because the Sub lords change over very small spans, two charts minutes apart can differ. An exact birth time and place are essential for the Sub lords, and so for any KP reading, to be accurate.
